LOWESTOFT ARMED FORCES DAY

About Us

We are a group of like-minded military veterans and supportive civilian members who are trying to keep the UK military in the public eye, we are a not-for-profit organisation who welcome all comers to join in the shared interest that we have.

The first ever national Veterans Day was held in 2006 and locally Leo Whisstock (Royal Naval Patrol Service Association and Sid Jacobs (Royal Artillery Association) decided to put something on in the town. (Leo and Sid had already formed the Lowestoft & District Combined Ex Services Association to try and get all the local associations and groups to work closer with each other while not affecting their autonomy) The date for Veterans Day was set nationally to be 27th June every year (mid-way between VE and VJ Days and also a day after the first investiture of the VC in 1857) but for convenience it was agreed that it could be celebrated on the nearest weekend. Armed Forces Day is a chance to show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans, and cadets. There are many ways for people, communities, and organisations across the country to show their support and get involved.
